My Motivating Ticker

I'm joining Jen on the weight loss journey. I've added a ticker to help motivate me and two weeks into it I'm proud to have some progress to ticker.

First T-ball Experience

Nathan was so excited about his t-ball uniform he wanted to sleep in it and wear it to school!

Opening Day for baseball was yesterday. It was complete madness for us newbies. Nathan played his first score, no outs, and each player got a chance to bat before switching to out field.
Nathan and a friend in his class who was playing on the other team.
Last at bat = home run! Notice another player on his team at the edge of the frame coming in after him....Nathan lapped the little dude with his long legged run.Reese trying to hang with the big kids on the playground.

The kids had a sleep over with Nana last night and Jake and I hooked up with his work partners to go see Jerry Seinfeld. It probably goes without saying, but it was a GREAT show. Now, when I should be sleeping in because I don't have my usually 6 and 3 year old wake up call, I'm up. My eyes popped open at 6:45am and I couldn't fall back asleep. Argh! However, Jake is sleeping like a baby.

Anyone else getting strange comments on your blog from users you don't know that say "Look here" (and the word here is a link)? I've gotten three of them and have just been deleting them because I don't know if they are virus related.

We came home from our weekend in SC to beautiful full blooms on a tree in our front yard. I have no idea what kind of tree it is, but once a year it is beathtaking.

Since our return home Jake and I have both confessed to thinking about Myra's foster girls more that we thought we would. They are such sweet girls and we had such a good time with them. They have lived with my aunt since November, away from an absent, drug addicted mother. "Mom" is making an attempt at getting them back and I hope if she succeeds that she does good by them and stays clean and takes good care of them. If she can't keep it together I hope the girls can bypass the emotional rollercoast of returning to an unconscious mother and just stay with my aunt who clearly loves them and can give them a good life. Plus, selfishly, I want to see them again.

Nathan and Reese's recent colds have caught hold of me. I'm giving into it today, but tomorrow I hope it finds another body to inhabit, preferrably someone not in this household.

I'm reading Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth. Nana gave it to Jake and I a year or so ago and when Nancy told me Oprah was doing an on-line class starting March 3rd I thought it was a good time to open it up. I'm on chapter 7 and maybe with today's hybernation I'll finish it. It is the most thought provoking book I've ever read and I'm looking forward to the on-line class to help me sort it all out.
Whenever the kids argue with each other they are usually quick to come to me to report the others wrong doing. My standard intial responce is, "Tell Nate/Reese about it (AKA try and work it out first before coming to me to referee)." So recently when Reese hit Nathan, the first thing Nathan does is say, "Mom, Reese hit me." My reply, "Tell Reese about it." Nathan, frusturated, says, "He already knows he hit me." Cracked me up. He's got a point there. Maybe I need to rephrase my response a bit.

Valentine's, New Pictures

Today's rainy weather gave us the perfect opportunity to stay in and make our Valentine's. I spent most of the morning watching TV and cutting out hearts so when Nathan got home from school we could get to work.
We made these cute ones for their teachers, the picture doesn't show it, but that's a hot cocoa mix inside the cup.
These are my favorites. That is an 8" red glow bracelet stuck through a card stock heart. We had to be really careful putting these together so we didn't "break" the glow stick and set he glowing in motion.

Jake and I had a conversation last night about a Vermont Teddy Bearr commercial we had seen. The commercial shows a guy sitting at his desk at work when he notices on his calendar that the next day is Valentine's Day. With few clicks of his mouse he orders a bear online and when his girlfriend receives the bear the next day at her office all the women come running over to check it out and ask her how she found a man so thoughtful! It was really cheesy. I don't think we have ever exchanged gifts on Valentine's Day or our anniversary. Well, one year Jake gave me a gift certificate to the spa for our anniversay and I was so mad. It always stinks when someone comes baring gifts and you are empty handed. February 1st was our 11th anniversary (HOLY SMOKES) and we vowed to continue the no gift giving theme. It works for us. Although, I might expect something "sparkly" on our 25th or 50th! Anyone else do no gifts for Valentine's and/or anniversary?

We got a new digital camera and I just got around to setting it up to download pictures and had to post this one. This is of last Thursday's Shuttle launch.

Oh, and I'm flying high with Obama's recent wins! I am for the first time in my life enjoying politics. It was my New Years resolution in 2007 to pay more attention. It was grooling early on to not fast forward the polical segments of the Today Show, but now I catch myself watching CNN and MSNBC to to hear the latest on the election. To go along with my 07 resolution Jake gave me the Everything American Government Book, which I've been toting around here and there reading when I nerdy! I have to catch up on all those social studies classes I snoozed through!

Never have I even considered donating to a presidential candidate, however, tonight after watching Obama's speech in VA. I coudn't fall asleep without showing my support. I am truly inspired and so hopeful about our future.

Fighting the Bug

I haven't blogged much because there hasn't been a whole lot going on here except some little bug that's going around. Nate was home sick on Monday, fever and sore throat and Reese stayed home today, fever and vomiting. It looks like everyone is on the mend and I can pack the Motrin away for another day. Jake and I did find ourselves talking about how greatful we are that I am able to stay home. Sunday night and Thursday night we didn't have to have the conversation about which one of us would have to miss work to stay home with a sick kid. For that I am so greatful. Not to say that I didn't wish a few times that is was Jake cleaning up vomit and me at work!

Note sure if anyone else is having this problem, but blogger hasn't been letting me spell check and I'm a terrible speller!
