Nathan's class had a field trip to the zoo and me and a few other mom's joined the group. It was so much fun watching Nathan with his little buddies. A picture of Nathan with his best buddy is attached. What is so funny is that they are both at opposite extremes of the height chart, but neither of them seems to notice.

Beach
I NEVER go to the beach, but I thought I'd brave the sticky water and sand and take the kids this morning. We had a blast. We brought home a shell collection that Nathan can't wait to make a crafty masterpiece out of. Got any ideas?

Caregiver Not Patient
Jake had his vasectomy today. The patient is doing well.........relaxing on the couch with a bag of frozen peas. This is the first time I've been the caregiver and not the patient. I like it better. I thought I might be a little sad to say goodbye to the little swimmers, but I wasn't. I sat in the waiting room for a bit, then headed outside to sit in the sun and read my newest copy of O Magazine, knowing this was the right choice. On the way home I asked Jake if he was sad his sperm was forever trapped inside his body with no way out (OK, so I didn't put it that way) and he simply said "nope."

Breast Check Dilemma
I go for an oncology check-up Monday. Here's my problem. I have breasts, but NO breast tissue and my gyn and oncologist still give me a breast exam. Do I continue to undress the new and improved girls and let them do their thing or remind them that I am a double mastectomy reconstructive patient?

Yard Work, Strawberries and Sea Shells
I guess having work done on the yard motivated us. We spent the better part of Sunday clearing out ALL the plants around the pool. Something we've talked about doing, just hadn't done. It felt good. Now it's naked until we figure out what we want in there. It has to be something low maintenance because it's not easy to climb up by the waterfall to get to it. Plus, we really need some plants that won't shed into the pool. Nathan had a blast helping. At one point I hear a splash and an "Uh-oh". I look over and he had accidentally dropped a huge rock from the waterfall into the pool. That will have to wait until summer, because the water is way to cold to even think of going in after it.
Kids and I made chocolate covered strawberries yesterday. Nathan won't even try a strawberry and I thought this might change his mind. No such luck. He just sucked all the chocolate off. Reese on the other hand couldn't get enough. He would devour the entire strawberry, stem and all, before I could get it from him.
Just had to share something else Nathan said.....(they are too sweet not to document). He asked to see a wedding picture of Jake and I that was up on a shelf. The same photo I posted for our anniversary, taken at the beach. He studies the picture, says how beautiful it is and then says, "I wish you had thought to bring me home a shell". Made me want to cry it was so sweet.

We're finally having the back of our back yard cleared and sodded. I became accustom to the "jungle" way back there since we had plenty of back yard to play in without it. Now that the work is scheduled I'm so excited. I'll post before and after pics once it's done. I envision an older Nathan and Reese playing soccer and football with their friends and maybe even a garden for me.

Out of the mouths of babes.....
Some cute and interesting things Nathan said lately.......
Nathan: "Mom, did you know you had an artist in your belly when you went to the hospital"? (Talking about when I was at the hospital giving birth to him)
Nathan: "Do you think Cody (our deceased dog) is in heaven playing with the dinosaurs?

Random Happenings
Did you catch Oprah the other day? I'm taking the advise of the 70 year old woman who looked 40, "Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize".
We took the training wheels off of Nathan's bike. We've been out on the front lawn on our "mountain" (OK, so it's just a hump) letting him cruise down as we help him balance. A couple more days and I think he'll have it.
Reese is officially potty trained! This is huge not only for Reese, but for me. I think I do OK on most things, but potty training is a real challenge. Now he tells me when he has to go and I even caught him in the bathroom today, half undressed saying he wanted to do it himself. Hallelujah!
We've been using our fireplace this week. I love it. Our pyro family curls up on the couch and we watch the flames together. The people who owned the house before us didn't use the fireplace the entire 13 years they lived here. I can't imagine that.
Jake has an appointment this week for a vasectomy consultation. We (mostly me) made the decision awhile back that he would be the "altered" one since my poor body has been through enough. So, his big day is near. He's being a real trouper about the whole thing, but certainly not excited about it. Wish him well.

Painting
My sweet husband had a painting done of our new house for our anniversary. I gave him grief at first because we have a rule about no gifts on our anniversary and this is the 2nd year he's broken that rule. However, I must say it is one of the most thoughtful presents I have every received. And what makes it even sweeter.....my mom painted it!
